Update: June 6, 2022

The 5th annual Peggy Fleming Trophy, in collaboration with the Broadmoor Skating Club, will be held on June 29, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado during the 25th Broadmoor Open skating competition.

The focus of the event is the skater’s ability to artistically express and present a complete composition while demonstrating superb technical skills. The music, creativity and overall artistic impression are the emphasis of the competition, and all skating elements are assessed from the performance skills and artistic point of view.

The event is limited to 18 entries through invitation by Peggy Fleming Jenkins and Chief Referee, Gale Tanger. Senior level men and women will compete together, and against each other, for the Trophy as each skater presents a 3:30 minute +/- 10 sec. performance for evaluation and scoring by a renowned group of World and Olympic figure skating judges and officials.

Peggy Fleming Trophy (PFT) Program Requirements:

There are nine technical elements which have fixed base scoring values. Each element will receive a Grade of Execution (GOE) mark evaluated from the artistic execution of the element in relationship to the musical structure of the program.

The Nine Technical Elements:

  • 4 Jump elements (one Axel-type)
  • 3 Spin elements (one Creative Spin)
  • 1 Step Sequence
  • 1 Signature Move

An element unique to the PFT is the Signature Move, which can be a creative move/movement series, or an iconic skating move, jump or spin tailored to the skater’s creativity, personal style and strength.

Illegal elements (flips, props, etc.) as prescribed by the International Skating Union are prohibited. For this event, quad jumps are not allowed.

PFT Prize Money:

Continuing their ongoing commitment to the PFT, Greg and Peggy Jenkins donate the prize money to the Broadmoor Skating Club and the Club then distributes it to the winners.

The prize money for a podium finish is:

  1st place: $3000
  2nd place: $2000
  3rd place: $1000

Additionally, non-podium skaters receiving +4 and/or +5 GOEs by a majority of the judges on their “Signature Move” and/or “Step Sequence” will receive a $100 award for each of these elements as a special acknowledgement.

The winner of the PFT will have his/her name added to the base of the bronze sculpture commissioned by Peggy and donated to the Broadmoor Skating Club in 2018 to celebrate the competition.

The event will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 6:30 pm (exact time TBD) at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs. Admission is free.

The 2022 Peggy Fleming Trophy continues to be a memorable event showcasing the creativity, artistry, and skating skills of the very talented figure skaters.
