History of Artistry on Ice
In 2017 The Broadmoor Skating Club hosted the first of five annual events in collaboration with Peggy Fleming dedicated to showcase a skaters’ ability to artistically express and present a complete composition while also demonstrating superb technical skills. The music, creativity, and overall artistic impression are the emphasis of this special event competition and all skating elements are assessed from the performance skills and artistic point of view.
This event will be limited to 18 entries, but will not be held with less than 8 entries. If there are not sufficient entries all entry fees of those registered for the event will be refunded.
Prize Money: The Broadmoor Skating Club is reviving the tradition of this event and is sponsoring the prize money as follows:
1st place: $1,000.00
2nd place: $750.00
3rd place: $500.00
In addition to the podium prize money, any non-podium skater receiving a +4 and/or +5 GOEs by a majority of the judges on their “Signature Move” and/or “Choreographic Spin” will receive a $250 award for each of these elements as a special acknowledgement.
Program Requirements:
There are nine technical elements which have fixed base scoring values. Each element will receive a Grade of Execution (GOE) mark evaluated from the artistic execution of the element in relationship to the musical structure of the program. The length of the program is 3 minute 30 seconds +/- 10 seconds. The Nine Technical Elements:
•4 Jump elements (one Axel-type)
•3 Spin elements (one must be a Choreographic Spin)
•1 Step Sequence
•1 Signature Move
Signature Move, which can be a creative move/movement series, or an iconic skating move, jump or spin tailored to the skater’s creativity, personal style and strength. Illegal elements (flips, props, etc.) as prescribed by the International Skating Union are prohibited. Jumps are limited to three or less revolutions
The registration for this event is not in EMS. Click the Link below to register.
The ChSp will become a new element in the 2026-2027 season. In preparation for that season, we invite competitors to enter this event to try their skills at this new and creative element and get feedback.
ChSp is a creative solo or combination spin with a minimum of 3 revolutions on one or two blades. The purpose of this element is to create a creative and distinguishing spin element that enhances choreography of the program. The position(s) of the spin are free with any basic or non-basic positions allowed. Spins may fly or change feet. The change of foot may be done multiple times but the duration of the spin cannot exceed 1 minute. In the future, this element will be assessed in the program as a whole as it relates to the music. This event seeks to encourage the development of this new element and it will be judged by itself. No music will be played.
Spins will be evaluated for Creativity, Centering, Control, Speed/Acceleration and overall Aesthetics. Men and woman will compete together at the following levels:
Bronze (no higher than Novice), Silver (Junior), Gold (Senior).
Skaters may skate up to any level above the one they qualify for by their singles test level but not below. All skaters will have two attempts at ChSp and the highest score of the two attempts will count for placement. The event will be limited to no more than 16 skaters per level and no less than 6 per level. Prize money will be awarded to the top 3 entries in each level as follows:
1st $150.00
2nd $100.00
